Hardwood floors are very beautiful, but they do have a downside that many other flooring materials do not. If you were to drag furniture or something similar across the floor, you might end up with unsightly scratches.
This could easily happen just from a couch or chair that slides on the floor if it doesn’t have padding under its legs.
So what would you do if that happened to you? Some might just decide that they will need to cover it with a carpet, but it is actually possible to repair scratches in floors and make them look good again.
Depending on how deep the scratch is, you might need to use different methods. A deep scratch requires sandpaper, and on a more shallow scratch you can use steel wool. Don’t rub too hard, and make sure you follow the grain.
After smoothing out the scratch and the area around it, clean it off really well and make it level using wood filler. After sanding it smooth once again, you can cover it over with polyurethane and the floor will look much better.
